The school of outstanding music education in Uganda

The Buna School of Music is a new music school opened in Kampala in 2015. Its Founder and Director, Dr. Tiija Elisabet Rinta, is an internationally reknowned music educator and the school is her latest conquest. Previously, Dr. Rinta has worked as a piano teacher, teacher trainer and education consultant in a number of countries in Europe and Asia, including the UK and Hong Kong. She has carried out work for different Governments and NGOs, such as UNICEF and the Government of Taiwan. In addition to practical work, she has published article in international journals and written books on the subject. Having studied at the Institute of Education, University of London, in the UK, she now lives there and works for local education charities as well as teaches privately. After working as a voluntary teacher in East Africa, Dr. Rinta followed her passion and founded a music school in Kampala.

The Music School aims to offer high quality yet affordable music education to all willing to learn. The lessons take a student-centred approach where each individual student’s needs and requirements are taken into account. The approach to teaching follows Dr. Rinta’s guidelines and curriculum that are based on her years of experience as a pianist and music teacher. Lessons are offered for classical music, jazz music and more pop and rock styles. The school also offers its practice room for rent for bands and orchestras willing to rehearse in a quiet space. All students are also given the opportunity to take the international examinations of The Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music (ABRSM) UK, and all aspects of the UNEB Ordinary and Advanced level syllabuses are covered. The lessons cater for motivated students of all ages and backgrounds, from beginners to professional levels, and RMS aims to give maximum opportunity for all individuals to develop as musicians.
